The 50W Reactor costs $349. The 100W version is $449. There's also a wireless footswitch for $149 that connects via Bluetooth and adds expression pedal and MIDI inputs.

For what you're getting, that's aggressive pricing. The back panel is stacked: USB-C for recording straight into your DAW, a headphone out, a line out with built-in cab sim, Bluetooth speaker functionality, and Wi-Fi for over-the-air updates. Eight onboard preset slots, unlimited in the app.

At $349 for the 50W, Positive Grid is going directly after the Boss Katana and Blackstar ID:X market. And with the AI angle, they've got a marketing story that neither of those amps can touch.

So Is AI the Future of Guitar Tone?

Here's where I put on my "hot take" hat.

The Reactor is genuinely cool technology. The idea of describing a tone in words and having an amp build it for you is the kind of thing that makes you go "huh, the future actually showed up." For players who want to explore and experiment without spending hours tweaking knobs, this is a big deal. Beginners especially are going to love this thing.

But let's pump the brakes for a second.

There's a massive difference between an AI generating a tone based on a text prompt and a system that captures the actual behavior of a real amplifier, component by component. When you load up a set of Kemper profiles or fire up some Tonex captures, you're not getting an algorithm's best guess at what "warm British crunch" might sound like. You're getting the real thing. The actual harmonic response, the sag, the way the amp breaks up when you dig in. That's not generated. That's captured from a real circuit.

And that distinction matters. A lot.

Captures and Profiles Still Hit Different

But if you're chasing specific tones for recording, mixing, or gigging, there's still no substitute for the real thing. A Kemper profile of a Friedman BE-100 is going to nail that sound in a way that a text prompt never will. A Tonex capture of a cranked Fender Twin is going to feel right under your fingers because it IS that amp, digitized down to the component level.

The Real Play Here

The smart move? Use both approaches.

Use the Reactor (or any AI-powered tool) for exploration and inspiration. Let it surprise you with tones you never knew you wanted. Then, when you find something that clicks, go hunt down the real thing. Find the NAM capture or Tonex capture that nails that specific amp character. Use Kemper profiles to get the exact sound dialed in for your recordings. That's the best of both worlds.
