But now you need something to push that sound into the air. And that choice matters more than most players realize.

What FRFR Actually Means (And Why It Matters)
FRFR stands for Full Range, Flat Response. Think of it like a really accurate PA speaker or studio monitor, but built tough enough to handle a guitar rig on stage. The whole idea is that it reproduces exactly what your modeler is putting out, with no coloration, no EQ bias, no "character" of its own.
Why does that matter? Because your Kemper profiles, Tonex captures, NAM captures, and HeadRush clones already have a cabinet simulation baked in. The profile captured the amp AND the speaker AND the mic AND the room. When you play that through an FRFR, you're hearing the full picture, exactly as it was captured. It's the closest you'll get to "what it sounded like in the room when they profiled that amp."

Here's what the smartest players I know are doing: both. They run a guitar cab on stage for feel and monitoring, while simultaneously sending the full profile (with cab sim) direct to front of house. Best of both worlds.
Your Kemper profiles go to the PA sounding exactly how they were meant to sound, while you get the physical feedback of a real guitar speaker pushing air behind you. The audience hears perfection through the PA. You feel like a rock star on stage. Everybody wins.
Most modern profilers and capture units make this stupid easy. The Kemper has a monitor output that can bypass the cab sim while the main outputs keep it engaged. Tonex, the Quad Cortex, and most other platforms have similar routing options. It's honestly one of the best features of modern modelers that nobody talks about enough.
The "I Just Want to Play at Home" Answer
Look, if you're primarily playing at home (no shame in that, most of us are), here's the honest truth: a decent pair of studio monitors or headphones will get you 90% of what an FRFR does at a fraction of the cost. Load up your Tonex captures or NAM captures, plug into your audio interface, and listen through monitors. Done.
If you want the "amp in the room" vibe for bedroom playing, a small guitar cab with a power amp can be really satisfying. Something like a 1x12 with a Creamback, powered by a compact Class D amp, takes up barely any space and makes your HeadRush clones or NeuralDSP captures feel alive in a way that headphones just can't match.

Common Mistakes That Make Both Options Sound Bad

Turning cab sims OFF with an FRFR. The opposite mistake. Without the cab sim, your FRFR will sound like an angry swarm of bees. Guitar amp signals without cabinet filtering are brutal. Keep the cab sim on.
Judging at bedroom volume. FRFR speakers and guitar cabs both need some volume to breathe. If you're barely cracking the volume knob, nothing is going to sound great. Give it a little juice.
Using garbage IRs or stock cab sims. The cab simulation is doing a LOT of heavy lifting, especially with FRFR. A mediocre IR will make even the best Kemper profiles sound flat and lifeless.
